Activity Based Costing is a technique that accurately allocates direct and indirect costs to the activities, service or service recipients that consume an organization's resources.

The ledger is the list of all of your organization's resources, e.g. salaries, rent, parking...  Your ledger dollars are allocated to your resources, which are essentially your machines and your employees, e.g. the 'Sales Team' may be a resource for your company.  The resource dollars are allocated to your activities, which are the tasks that your resources perform, e.g. the 'Sales Team' does 'Order Entry' and 'Customer Management'.  The activity dollars are then allocated to your cost objects, which are your customers, products, vendors...  At the end of this process, all of your expenses are distributed to the customers, products and projects that consume your resources based on how much effort your resources spend on each one.

Does It Work With Quicken / Quickbooks / Microsoft Money...?

Yes.  All accounting applications allow you to export your information to Excel or CSV, which the Prismata CPS then imports.

How Difficult Is It To Set Up?

The Prismata CPS is the most user friendly cost accounting application on the market today, with easy to use wizards that walk you step by step through the cost allocation process.  Models of average complexity take about a day or two to set up.  Simple models take less time, and complex models or the modeling of multiple branches can take more time.
